Hopkins Historical Society Holds Raspberry Festival History Contest The Hopkins Raspberry Festival is Minnesota's oldest continual summer celebration and has grown from 20,000 visitors the first year to well over a hundred thousand enthusiastic participants for recent celebrations. FDR was President, a loaf of bread sold for 8 cents, gasoline was 19 cents a gallon and Bette Davis won the Oscar for 'Dangerous' when the first celebration was held in Hopkins. Early festivals included free raspberries and ice cream, pie eating contests, band competitions and races in the park. Many Hopkins festival-goers remember when real raspberries were tossed from floats instead of today's bubble gum and Tootsie Rolls! Even though we have seen many changes, the theme stays the same - the juicy, delicious raspberry. If you would like more information on Hopkins History - be sure to stop by our booth on Family Day. Until then - try your luck on the following questions to win a Hopkins History book and a gift certificate for a local store or restaurant! We will be awarding a First, Second and Third prize. Please send your answers to the Hopkins Historical Society, 1010 First Street South, Hopkins, MN 55343 no later than July 22nd. You may also drop your answers off at our booth on Family Day, July 15th. Winners will be notified by phone. In the event of duplicate winners, names will be drawn from a hat.
